Give the counter a purpose
Decide where you prepare food and keep that patch available. Appliances you use daily may deserve counter space; occasional gadgets may not. Move one item at a time so you can see whether the change makes cooking easier.
Gather the travelling objects
Post, keys and chargers often collect where someone first puts them down. Give these a small landing place away from food preparation. A bowl or box you already own can test the idea before you buy a tray.
Keep cleaning separate from food
Store cleaning products in their original containers and according to their labels, with appropriate access restrictions for children and pets. A decorative bottle is not a reason to lose the instructions or make the contents look like a drink. We do not offer homemade chemical recipes.
Test for a week
Try the arrangement during normal cooking, washing up and unloading shopping. Change anything you keep moving out of the way. A clear counter should help you use the kitchen, rather than create extra work maintaining an elaborate display.
Keep going, gently
